Funeral services will be Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., Cherry Grove M.B. Church, 1296 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Jackson, MS 39203 with burial in Garden Memorial Park, 8001 Highway 49, Jackson, MS 39209.

Minnie Milton Scott Armstrong was born on August 8, 1936 in Yazoo County - Holly Bluff, Mississippi. She was the third child of five children born to the late William Henry and Carrie Ethel Scott, Sr. She confessed Christ at an early age at Union Baptist Church in Holly Bluff. While there, she was a faithful member in the Sunday School and the B.T.U. Departments. For her early education, she attended Yazoo City School System and later attended and graduated from Yazoo City Training School. She met Cleotha Armstrong while working as a nurse at the Yazoo City Health Clinic. (He had gotten hit in the eye by a baseball). Before moving to Jackson, MS, she married Cleotha on January 4, 1959. On January 4, 2009 they celebrated their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary, after moving to Jackson, she joined Cherry Grove M.B.C. under the leadership of Dr. W.C. Davis and became a deaconess under Dr. Horace Buckley. Under the leadership Pastor Jessie E. Redmond and Pastor Marek D. Walker she served faithfully until her health prohibited her. She joined Cherry Grove in the early 60’s (1960) because of the influence of Bro. Andrew and Elzetta Davis. They continue to talk about how great the Sunday School Department was. At Cherry Grove, she was a member of the Deaconess, Orientation, History, and Mission Circle of Faith Ministries. She was also active in the Granny/ Gramps Choir, B.T.U., Shepherd’s Ministry, Building the Pastoral Selection Committees. She was a Division Superintendent and the First Woman Superintendent of the Sunday School. She was awarded the Mother of the Year in 1989. In the Jackson District Missionary Baptist Association, she served as a leader of the Youth and Young Peoples Department, member of the Deacon Wives, Deaconess and Widows Department. She served as Secretary, Vice President, President of the District’s Woman’s Department, and on the Natchez College Founder’s Day Committee. Christian Education was very important to her, she taught numerous classes throughout the city and state. (Jackson District of Congress Education, The C.O.P. Program and Leadership Schools). She received numerous certificates of completion in several classes (Dean’s Certificate through C.O.P. Program) and the MS Baptist Seminary (Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education). In her professional life, she was a nurse at Jackson State College Health Center. She worked as a private sitter and personal care provider. She was on the Board for Alternative Living for Senior Citizens with Governor William Winter, Board Member of the Personal Care Association, and the Jackson Mental Health Center. For more than 45 years, she owned and operated Armstrong’s Personal Care Home. She was blessed with a God-Given talent of sewing. She made doll pillows, bridal dresses for her nieces, hats ( “Hats By Pennie”). She also made matching outfits for her twin grandchildren. All you have to do is tell her what you want and she would make a hat to suit you. Minnie is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Dorothy Armstrong, Dallas Walker, Carrie Garner, one brother William H. Scott, Jr., one grandson - Derodric N. Armstrong and one great grandson Bryson R. Armstrong. Minnie leaves to cherish his precious memories to one son, Cleotha (Sonia); one daughter Edith Carol, two grandsons Brandon (Rotavia) Armstrong and Brodrick Gales, one granddaughter Brandi Armstrong, one step granddaughter Crystal (Sonny) Williams and one step-grandson Terance (LaToya) Bly; 12 great grandchildren, three God daughters Yomeka (Anthony) Gafney, Latasha (Jermaine) Clemons and Letesha (Rashad) Jefferson; two brothers-in-laws Earnest Armstrong Jr. and Herman (Carrie) Armstrong; four sister-in-laws Ira Bell Scott, Bernice Killingsworth, Delores Little and Loretha Armstrong) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
