Obituary For Elma Alberta Thompson

Elma Alberta Wilson was born on January 31, 1949 to the union of Walter David Wilson & Bettie Elmira Wilson (Rimmer) in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Elma was the youngest of five children. Elma received her formal education at Attala County Public Schools at Mt. Moriah & Tipton Street Elementary School, Tipton Street Jr. High & Southern States Academy in Houston, TX where she earned her High School Diploma in 1969. Upon graduation she continued her education at HBCU Mary Holmes College (West Point, MS - Closed in 2005), Woods Junior College (Mathiston, MS - Closed in 2003), Saints College (Lexington, MS closed in 2006), Jackson State & Mississippi State University & ultimately graduating from Tougaloo College in 1981.

Elma accepted Christ as her Lord & Savior at an early age at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Kosciusko, MS. A devoted member for over 60 years, she served & held clergy positions as but not exclusive to; Financial Secretary, Program Director, Choir Director and Choir President. Additionally, Elma traveled with a gospel group known as "The Generation Singers" throughout Mississippi consisting of her Mother, Herself & Oldest Daughter.

On August 13, 1975 she was united in holy matrimony to Smith McKinley Thompson "Mack" / "Kenny". Mack was her best friend & the love of her life as they remained married for 44 years until her death. Their union was Blessed with three beautiful children.

Mrs. Thompson was employed as a Nursing Assistant (Trained by Mrs. Woods), Dental Assistant (trained by Nurse Julie Cotton & Dr. Neeves) & teacher's assistant (trained by Eunice Simmons) before finding her calling in Early childhood education for the Mississippi Headstart Association, Attala County for 44 years until retirement. She taught at the following Head Start locations: Greenlee 1969-1989, Barlow 1989-2000 & Kosciusko Head Start central Mississippi Inc. 2000-2013 as Educational Administrator, Head Teacher & Center Director. Elma's other accomplishments include recognition & registered by the Who's Who Executives in Business Alliance for multiple years.

Late Monday night on December 16, 2019 God dispatched an Angel to St. Dominic's Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS to call her to His eternal home. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter David Wilson & Bettie Elmira Wilson; Daughter: Annie Pearl Huffman, Father-in-law Theodore Roosevelt Thompson, Sr., Mother-in-law Lillie Mae Thompson; Brothers Alven Wilson, Ivery David Wilson and Leedale "Jack" Barksdale; Two Baby sisters, Nephews, Niece, Great Nephew, Great-reat Niece, Brother-in-Law, Sister-in-Law and a host of other Beloved family and friends sharing a mansion in our Father's House, John 14:2

Elma leaves to cherish her beautiful life & memories: Husband: Smith McKinley Thompson, Kosciusko, MS; Daughter: Shderia Marodia Thompson, Ridgeland, MS; Son: Jason McKinley Thompson (Arthuretta), Middletown, RI; Grandchildren: Xavier McKinley Thompson, Isaiah Maurice Hightower, Israel McKinley Ledarius Hightower and Luke Oliver Thompson & Angela Jaseen Thompson. Sister: Aldoria Boatman & Brother John Wallace Wilson (Cathy) both of Milwaukee, WI; Brother-In-Laws: Theodore Thompson Jr., David Walter Leo Thompson (Lillie) and a host of nephews & nieces.
