James W. Proctor

James Willis "Shank" Proctor, 84, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at St. Frances Memorial Hospital. He was born to the late James and Alma Grant Proctor on November 2, 1935 in Spartanburg, SC.

Mr. Proctor was preceded in death by: his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Lila Mae Hunt Proctor; his son, James Milton Proctor; his granddaughter, April Means; and his sister, Dorothy Tobe.

James was a member of Stephen Grove A. M. E. Zion Church where he served as an Usher, Trustee, Chairman of Trustee Board and Progressive Men's Club.

Mr. Proctor graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1953.

He retired after twenty years of service from Duke Power Transit. James also worked faithfully for Wayside Gardens, Gear Drugs, Deluxe Cab, Atchison Charter Bus Service and Jeans Bus Service. Mr. Proctor was the owner of Shanks Lounge.

James was a Honorary Mason and Shriner.

He believed and trusted in the Lord. James loved his family dearly and always kept everyone laughing with his funny jokes and old stories. Mr. Proctor loved to listen to music and dance.

Mr. Proctor leaves to cherish fond and loving memories to: his five sons, Anthony Proctor, Al Proctor, Oliver Hunt (Berniece), Tyrone Meadows (Betty) and Ronald Meadows; his six daughters, Valda Slade (James M.), Elder Gwendolyn Means, Cynthia Cathcart, Belinda Meadows, Kimberly Meadows and Wendlyn Merritt; his granddaughter and caregiver, Shaneka Flournoy; his thirty-five grandchildren; his sixty-seven great-grandchildren; his two nieces, Gail Whitmire and Erica Taylor (Randy); his nephew, Curtis Lawrence, Jr. (Malene); his sister, Josephine Lawrence (Curtis) of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of relatives and friends.

A Celebration of the Life for James Willis "Shank" Proctor will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Rev. Rena Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in the Stephen Grove A. M. E. Zion Church Cemetery, 440 Stephen Grove Rd, Spartanburg, SC.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Valda D. Slade, 822 Turtle Ct., Boiling Springs, SC.
