The funeral services of the late Mrs. Katie Mae Baker of Ashburn, Georgia, who departed this life on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Pruitt Health Care in Ashburn, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Hatley, Georgia, with Minister Melvin F. Whitsett, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Hatley, Georgia.

Mrs. Katie Mae Whitsett Baker was born in Crisp County, Georgia, in the Hatley Community, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Bryant and Rosie Cross Whitsett. She is affectionately known to all of her friends as “Kate" or "Katie Mae”.

Katie Mae moved from Crisp County, Georgia to Turner County, Georgia with her family at the age of 18. At the age of 25, Katie Mae was joined in matrimony to Mr. James Calvin Baker of Florida. James and Kate lived in Turner County and there were no children added to this union. James preceded Katie in death in the 1990’s. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four other siblings: Robert Whitsett (eldest brother, ‘RB’), Jack Whitsett (also known as ‘Son’), Ernestine Murray (“Teen”), and Bryant Whitsett, Jr. (died as infant).

Katie Mae leaves behind, her youngest brother, Mr. Tom W. Whitsett of Ashburn, Georgia; seven nieces, Autry Parker of Gilroy, California, Etheria Dugard of Moultrie, Georgia, Sue Walker of Miami, Florida, Rachel Hillman of Ashburn, Georgia, Maxine Romer of Miami, Florida, Vonda Kay Burkes of Albany, Georgia, Vanessa Whitsett of Cordele, Georgia; seven nephews, Bobby Walker of Albany, Georgia, Jack Carlton Whitsett of Cleveland, Ohio, Melvin F. Whitsett of Tifton, Georgia, Tony Dale Whitsett of Cleveland, Ohio, Walter Bryant Whitsett of Houston, Texas, Rodney Hillman of Ashburn, Georgia, Tom W. Whitsett, Jr. of Ashburn, Georgia; and a host of great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
