Obituary For Betty Wells

Funeral service for Mrs. Betty Jo Brown Wells will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Mill Branch AME Church, 1917 Old River Rd., Pamplico. Interment will follow in Pee Dee Memorial Gardens, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Betty Jo, the daughter of Joseph and Marie Burch Brown was born November 23, 1940 in Florence County. She departed this earthly life to enter eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 3, 2020.

Betty Jo attended the Public Schools of Florence County and was a proud 1960 graduate of Gibbs High School in Pamplico, South Carolina.

At an early age, Betty Jo joined Mill Branch African Methodist Episcopal Church and served faithfully for many years. After relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she joined Bethany Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Alpheus L. Bright, where she served faithfully as an Usher.

Betty Jo was united in holy matrimony to the late Johnny B. Wells on December 31, 1966, after relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Betty Jo was a professional seamstress for many years before retirement from the United States Naval Base Ship Yard in Northeast Philadelphia located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before it closed on September 26, 1996.

After relocating back to Pamplico, South Carolina, Betty Jo reaffirmed her commitment as a member to Mill Branch African Methodist Episcopal Church,and attended faithfully, until her health declined.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie Burch Brown; her husband, Johnny B. Wells; four sisters, Lucille Brown, Leola Brown Fleming, Luella Brown Davis, Creola Brown Hyman; and one brother.

Betty Jo leaves to cherish her precious memories: one devoted and dedicated sister and caregiver, Rena Mae Brown Graham of Pamplico, South Carolina; one uncle, Hoover Brown of Middletown, Connecticut; a host of nephews; nieces; other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at 1054 Boling Rd., Pamplico
