Obituary For Roosevelt Byrd

Roosevelt “Velt” Byrd, 63, of St. Augustine, FL was born on Sunday, February 12, 1956 in Wadley, GA to Willie Green and Arletha Byrd – Kearse. At an early age, he attended school in Jefferson County and was a member of Solomon Temple Baptist Church Moxley, GA. After moving to St. Augustine, FL he became employed at Florida East Cost Railroad where he remained employed for over 34 years until he retired. Roosevelt accepted the Lord at an early age. He later became an active member and Deacon at New Jerusalem Worship Ministries under the direction of Pastor James V. Lee and Firstlady Vanessa Lee. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Church Finance Officer, Church Advisor, and assisted the Pastor in many capacities. Deacon Byrd served faithfully until his departing.

He was preceded in eternal rest by his parents, Willie Green and Arletha Kearse; and sister, Sonya Kearse.

He leaves to cherish his many memories: children, Shineka Byrd, Latarsha (Marcus) Oxendine, Shavon Byrd, Tameika Byrd, Roosevelt (Shameka) Byrd; sisters, Pauline Garden, Arlie Victory, Joann Whitfield, Rhoda Thomas, all of St. Augustine, FL, Lenora Martin of Wadley, GA; brothers, Willie (Evelyn) Cooper, Randall Kearse, Eric Kearse, all of St. Augustine, FL, Ricky Green of Swainsboro, GA, Michael Green of Maryland; aunt, Emmitt M. Byrd of Wadley, GA, 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

The Homegoing Celebration will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, St. Augustine, FL, Rev. Richard Madison, Pastor. His pastor, Bishop James V. Lee, eulogist. The viewing will be 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2020 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. The burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, St. Augustine, FL.
