Obituary For Samuel Lee Hicks

Samuel Lee Hicks was born on January 19, 1947 in Whatley, Alabama to the late Mattie Louise Coates and Andrew Hicks. Sammie received his basic education in the school system in Whatley, Alabama. It was at an early age that he decided that he wanted to be different. He did not want to live by the rules and regulations of the early 60’s. Subsequently, Sammie moved to Florida looking for a better life. Sammie worked in the fruit industry and later on in life, he found his passion in roofing. Working in roofing lead him to eventually start his own business, “Hicks Roofing.” Along with this passion, he enjoyed helping others and wildlife. In 1967, he married Mattie Hill and they remained lifelong friends until the time of his demise. Samuel was a member of the Church of Christ.

On January 24, 2020, God saw that His child was tired, so he dispatched an angel to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center to bring him home to receive his heavenly reward: Eternal Rest. Sammie was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Louise Hicks and Andrew Hicks; sisters, Emma Robinson and Lorraine Taite; brother, Willie Williams; great-nephew, Christard Hicks.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his ex-wife and life time friend, Hattie Hill Baker of Fort Pierce, FL; daughter, Sandra (Urbain) Alterma of Port St. Lucie, FL; sons, Samuel (Sosa) Hicks, Jr. of Twenty Nine Palms, CA, Michael Vaughn of Clarksville, TN, and Lawrence Hicks of Fort Pierce, FL; stepsons, Larry Williams and Anthony Williams of Fort Pierce, FL; goddaughter, Lynnett Luc of Fort Perce, FL; brothers, Robert (Bennie Pearl) Hicks and Eddie (Merilyn) Hicks both of Whatley, AL, Walter Hicks and David (Anita) Hicks both of Fort Pierce, FL, Ersell (Freda) Hicks of Flint, MI, and Charlie (Jackie) Hicks of Kankakee, IL; sister, Ammie Hicks of Fort Pierce, FL; 7 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.
