Miss Kayanna Simmons - Thomas

Aiken, SC - The Home Going Celebration for Miss Kayanna Simmons - Thomas will be conducted on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 1: 00 PM at Summer Grover Baptist Church, 2465 Old Barnwell Road, Williston, SC 29853 with Reverend Wilbur J. Simmons and Reverend Sammie L. Williams officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation for Miss Kayanna Simmons - Thomas will be on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, 390 Beaufort Street NE Aiken, SC 29801.

Obituary

Ms. Kayanna Simmons – Thomas was born December 31, 1989 in Atlanta, GA.

She was the daughter of Willie James Thomas Jr., and the late Carolyn Simmons. She transitioned to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Aiken Regional Medical Center, Aiken, SC.

At an early age, Kayanna joined the Mt. Sanai Baptist Church, Eureka, SC and was an active member of the Junior Choir and Youth and Youth Ministry. Kayanna also frequently attended Summer Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Kayanna graduated from Aiken High School in 2009 and received her Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Aiken Technical College in 2014. She was pursuing her bachelor’s degree at USCA, Aiken, SC. Kayanna was employed at UPS.

Kayanna was the recipient of the 2019 NAACP President Award and held position as NAACP USCA Chapter Health Committee Chairperson.

Kayanna loved her family.

Kayanna was preceded in death by her mother; Carolyn Simmons, a brother; James Bernard Thomas, maternal grandparent Ulysses Simmons and Annie Jean Key Simmons, paternal grandparents; Willie James Thomas Sr and Martha Mack Thomas, Godmother Helen Key Hamilton and a great niece; Madison Jones.

She is survived by her father, Willie James Thomas Jr., Atlanta, GA; one sister, Dianne Thomas (Steven Nichols ), Oglethorpe, GA, four uncles, Ulysses Simmons Jr., Columbus, OH, Roderick (Tanya) Simmons, Releigh, NC, Timothy (Joretta) Simmons, Greensboro, NC, Henry Thomas, Atlanta, GA, one aunt Debra Simmons, Aiken, SC. Special Great Aunts and Uncles; Ella Lou (Henry) Evans, Augusta, GA, Blanche Wimberly, Wagener, SC, Charlie (Henrietta) Smith and Albert Thomas all of Augusta, GA. Godfather John A. Hamilton, Aiken, SC; God brothers; Marichal (Mal) Hamilton, Aiken, SC, Roscoe Hamilton, Upper Marlboro, MD, God Sister; LaShaun (Marcellous) Ryans, Aiken, SC. Namesake god mother Kay Cannon Miles, special cousin; Gary Thomas and Jacquez Dorsey. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
