Obituary For Milton L. Burt

Milton was born to Gladys and Milton Burt on September 12, 1946. He was baptized at Wesley Methodist Church as a child and remained a faithful member until his death.

He attended Attala County Training School and Tipton Street High School graduating in 1964. As a student at Tipton, he participated in Math & Science Clubs and was a perennial winner of spelling bees. After high school, he matriculated at Jackson State University and served in the US Army.

Milton was known for his mathematical genius and could calculate most problems in his head, seldom needing pen & paper. Generous with his knowledge, he even helped classmates and others pass higher-level mathematics courses. He was an entrepreneur, applying his considerable skills as a carpenter and plumber in his construction business, beautifying and enhancing homes & shops. One of those rare individuals who could "just do it" without formal training, he enjoyed working with his hands, whether building cabinets, renovating a room, or refurbishing a house. He also just enjoyed people, and as owner of the Bleau Chateau nightclub, he provided his friends and visitors memorable experiences of good food and great fun. He was the family historian, answering questions about friendships and kinships as well as community connections. As a consummate storyteller, he regaled family & friends with stories about colorful characters in our family and in the community, some obviously true and some greatly embellished. He could deliver a punch line in a joke as well as any celebrated comedian. A devoted family man, he assisted with caregiving for our darling mother Gladys and our dear grandmothers, Mama Annie and Ma Della. He was Santa to his nieces and nephews, and doted on his great grands Kaliyah and Jeffrey, who loved their PaPa and brought him great joy. He was also a great cook busying himself to prepare a hot, delicious meal when family came home. In fact, family knew to expect to find ribs, sausage and chicken sizzling on his BBQ pit and other fixings in his kitchen.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents Milton & Gladys Burt and son Lavoga Rimmer. He is survived by his devoted wife Willena; two stepdaughters; Sharon and Rosilena Wallace; brothers-in-law, Samuel Wallace (Earnestine), Austin Wallace; brothers: Marvin Malone and Carl (Deborah) Burt; sisters: Dr. Della Burt-Bradley, Janice (Terry) Smith, Joyce Williams; grand-daughters, Tiffany and Kia Wallace; three great-grand children; nieces and nephews April Burt, DeLonda Adams, LaMarcus Adam's, Yaphet and Yomi Smith, Carla and Nakia Burt, Monica English, Jacqueline and Timothy Malone; aunts; Corinne Cooper and Betty Burt; and a host of other relatives and friends.
