Clay fell asleep in the Lord, Sunday, February 16, 2020 in New York, NY; to the late beloved Henry Hoover and the late beloved Patricia B. Strickland. Clay grew up in New York and moved to Virginia in 1974. He attended Drewry Mason High School and was employed with textile companies in Martinsville, VA. Clay was an avid basketball and baseball player who loved to swim and walk at the Dewry Mason track. He loved his family, enjoyed sports and was the family handyman, agreeing to help with any task that he was asked. Clay had a big kind heart and would give you the shirt off his back. Clay leaves to cherish is memory: two sons; Tynell clay Edwards and Henry Clay "CJ" Strickland, Jr., both of New York, NY, brother; Anthony "Tony" O'Neal Strickland (Debra) of Greenville, SC, four sisters; Darlene Winfrey of Jacksonville, FL, Patricia A. S. Galloway (Leonard) of Suffolk, VA, Pamela Strickland of Martinsville, VA, Lushorn Strickland of Atlanta, GA, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a host of other relatives and friends.
