Obituary For Julius J. Wright

On Wednesday morning, February 12, 2020, the Lord saw fit to call home his beloved son, Julius James Wright. Affectionately called “Jay” by his family, Julius was the second child oldest of six children born to Elder Ossie and Julia Wright on February 19, 1943 in Ft. Pierce, FL. Julius grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age. His father, Elder Ossie Wright, Sr., was a Joshua man “As for me and my house we shall serve the Lord” so he insisted that his children confess their sins and call on the name of Jesus. He never relented his faith in the sufficiency of God’s Grace.

He attended the local schools of St. Lucie County, graduating from Lincoln Park Academy in 1962. In 1964, he married Doris Ingram and to that union three daughters were born. For several years he worked for Winn Dixie. To better provide for his family, he went to school and studied electronics and worked in that field briefly. He later went back to school for Mortuary Science at North Miami Dade Junior College in Miami, FL. While at Miami Dade Mr. Wright taught Anatomy and was an assistant in the embalming lab. He completed and received his A. S. Degree in Mortuary Science in 1975. Upon completion he passed the National Board Examination. Afterwards he returned to Ft. Pierce and did his apprenticeship at Sarah’s Memorial Chapel. He completed his internship for his embalmers license in 1976 and successfully passed his Florida State Board Exam in 1977. He was employed as a licensed funeral director at Sarah’s Memorial Chapel for many years. He also worked for many years in the same capacity at Stone Brothers Funeral Home.

Julius was a talented singer, writer, and guitarist. His gift of music began as a child, singing with the family group called The Wright Singers. He learned and mastered playing the guitar. Julius expressed a broad appreciation for different genres of music. For a period, he played, traveled, and sang with R&B groups. He was the lead guitarist for Mr. Donald Scott and his band. He also teamed up with his brother, “Ossie Wright Jr. and His Groove Band.” Later he became the lead guitarist and a lead singer with The Soul Converts, a local gospel quartet who traveled the Treasure Coast, Georgia, and Alabama singing the gospel. During his early adult life, he was a member of the 1st Bethel Baptist Church of Ft. Pierce and the Okeechobee Lodge of the Masonic. He later joined The New Testament Baptist Church of America, Inc. where he played lead guitar and was a faithful member until his health failed him. Wherever “Jay” went, he was the life of the party. He was known for a few favorite phrases like calling those he had an affection for “blood” and his greeting “hello” with a jingle to it, and in the days of the CB there was his handle “Funeral Home King”. He was a proud mentor of others who have gone on to become successful in music and funeral directing.

Julius James Wright leaves to cherish his memories: His daughters: Deidre D. Gainey, Debbie L. Johnson, Darleena Wright, Felecia Lucas and Eulisha Desire, ten grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; Siblings: brother; Bishop Ronald E. (Juanita) Wright, Sr.; Sisters: Rev. Dr. Frances M. My sincerest condolences to the family of Mr.Julius Wright. May he Rest in Peace. I'm sure he's singing in the "Heavenly Choir" (just how you and Daddy use to, outside, under that ole' pine tree). I remember the last time I stop and talked with you, you told me you missed that ole Elmore Copeland, like he had just left here yesterday. I feel exactly the same Mr. Julius! I can still hear those two beautiful voices together. You will be missed. Lisa Copeland Culver
