Obituary For Pearl McKinney Scales

A celebration of life for Mrs. Pearl McKinney Scales, 92, will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor A. G. McKinney will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park Mrs. Scales will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be today from 1-7 p.m.

Mrs. Pearl McKinney Scales began life’s journey on Monday, July 4, 1927, to the parentage of Johnny McKinney and Mary Florence Mann McKinney in Talladega County, Alabama.

Mrs. Scales accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She received her education in the schools of Talladega County. In 2010, she retired from the culinary staff at E. H. Gentry. Pearl was a member of the Elks Lodge.

On the evening of Tuesday, February 25, 2020, Pearl began her eternal journey at her residence. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Jimmy Scales; a son, John B. Jackson; a daughter, Ethel Mae Jackson; a grandson, Sedrick Jackson; her parents, Johnny and Mary McKinney; two sisters, Darthula McKinney-Cook and Louise Scales; and five brothers, Reverence Blenton E. McKinney, Johnny McKinney, Lacey McKinney, Frank McKinney and Leroy McKinney.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Dorothy J. Cass and Mattie Elston Chandler of Talladega, Alabama; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Ruby L. Cole of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Dorsey (Marion) McKinney of Talladega, Alabama and Charles Ray (Josephine) McKinney of Pensacola, Florida; a special daughter, Martha Jane Chatman of Talladega, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
