Obituary For Barbara Garrett Glover

A celebration of life for Mrs. Barbara Garrett Glover, 62, will be 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020, at Africa Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Isaac Richardson will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Glover will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 1-7 p.m. The family will receive from from 1-3 p.m.

Mrs. Barbara Garrett Glover was born on July 8, 1957, to the union of Charlie Frank Garrett and Lena Maezonia Player Garrett Smith in Talladega, Alabama. Mrs. Glover was a longtime member of Africa Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a deaconess, sang with the Inspirational Choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She was also an active member of the Rushing Springs District Association. Barbara was a member of the 1975 graduating class of Talladega High School and continued her education at Gadsden State Community College and Central Alabama Community College. During her professional career, she was employed with EBSCO Industries, E. H. Gentry/AIDB, WNUZ Radio and Kroger. In 2009, Barbara retired from Talladega City Schools where she served as bookkeeper at Houston Elementary School. Civically, Barbara dedicated her time with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. In the early hours of Wednesday, February 26, 2020, Barbara gained her eternal reward at Brookdale Assisted Living. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Willie C. Glover; her father, Charlie F. Garrett; a sister, Nellie F. Player; and two brothers, Charlie Garrett, Jr. and Karey Garrett. Mrs. Glover leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Dr. Cherith (Cordell) Fluker of Pell City, Alabama; her mother, Lena Maezonia Smith of Talladega, Alabama; two stepdaughters, Larcella Gooden and Vickey (Eric) Hall of Talladega, Alabama; five stepsons, Vincent (Delilah) Glover of Talladega, Alabama, Willie (Regina) Glover, Jr. of Munford, Alabama, Alvin (Natalie) Glover of Birmingham, Alabama, Querry Glover of Calera, Alabama and Rickey (Wendy) Robinson of Oxford, Alabama; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Robin Dates and Brenda Henderson of Talladega, Alabama, Ruth Tyson of Kokomo, Indiana and Valerie Thompson of Detroit, Michigan; six brothers, Billy Player, Arthur (Tonya) Garrett, Michael (Maria) Garrett and Paul Wills of Talladega, Alabama, Reverend Terry (Arthalia) Garrett of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Stanley Garrett of Opelika, Alabama; three sisters-in-law, Juanita Garrett of Long Beach, Mississippi, Mary (Arthur) Cheeley of Greenville, Georgia and Naomi Ragland of Lithonia, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
