Mother Alice Holmes Morton, beloved daughter of the late Rufus and Sena Ogburn Holmes was born April 27, 1938 in Richmond, VA. Surrounded by family and friends she entered into eternal rest on February 24, 2020 in John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell, VA. At an early age she was baptized and joined Diamond Grove RZUA Church. She was a graduate of the former East End High School in 1957.

Alice was married to the late Richard Morton, Jr. She later joined Jerusalem Baptist Church where she was President of the Senior Choir. She was a retiree from the Mecklenburg County School System.

Mother Alice loved to worship the Lord. She later affirmed her faith and was baptized and joined Greater New Life Apostolic Church, White Plains, VA where she was the Mother of the church. Alice loved to cook, sing, and dance. She loved her independence because she drove herself in her own car up to three weeks ago before her demise.

Alice is survived by three children- Keith (Michelle) Morton, Chester, VA; Vinson Morton, Danville, VA, and Lorna Morton, Chester, VA; ten grandchildren- two of whom she reared- Minister Vinson D. Morton, Jr. and Chyaa Morton of the home; Zachary Morton, Richard (Caetlin) Cypress and Deja Powell; sisters-in-law-, Rev. Belinda Cosby and Jacquelyn Williams, Richmond, VA; brother-in-law, James (Kathy) Williams, Glenn Dale, MD; devoted friends- Essie Crenshaw, Mary “Oodie” Long, and Clarence and Mary Bell Bacon, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
