Obituary For Marcus Johnson

Marcus was born to the late Florence Johnson and late Morris Williams on August 17, 1939 in Shorter, Alabama. He attended Macon County Public Schools. MC accepted Christ at an early age and moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1956. He met and married Willie Pearl Mack, in 1967 and joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church over 50 years ago, under the pastorage of the late Reverend J. D. Dupree. He started working at an early age and became a master plasterer and stucco mechanic, and co-owner of J & J Plastering Company. Later, he worked for numerous construction companies throughout the Tampa Bay area. Through the years MC was affiliated with Masons, Elks, and sang with the Inspirational Florida Gospel Singers. He toured as the lead singer with Clay Graham and the Pilgrim Jubilee as well as Marty Jaycock of the Soul Stirrers. MC also opened for Shirley Caesar and other national gospel-recording artists. His favorite past time was coordinating various gospel events throughout the southeastern United States. At 11:25 a.m. on 25 February 2020, the Lord called MC home to glory and eternal rest. His home going was preceded by his sister-in-law Beverly Mack and brothers-in-law, Levoisa Duncan and Henry Mack, all of Clearwater, FL; and grandson Cameron Hooks of Raleigh, NC. He leaves to celebrate his life with fond memories his wife, Pearl; four sons, Anthony “Tony” Burton of Tuskegee, AL; Samuel, Jr., Creston, and Price, all of Clearwater, FL; two daughters, Penethia of South Pasadena, FL and Patriva of Tampa, FL; an adopted son, Craig and adopted daughter, Veronica; siblings: Louise Ambrose of OH, Barbara (Philip) Kinnebrew of Tuskegee, AL; Oscar (Mary) Johnson of Valrico, FL; Michael and Maxine Williams of Akron, OH; Kenny Jackson of Long Beach, CA; godson, Louie McIver of Clearwater, FL; grandsons: Carlton (Doris) Owens II of FL; Termaine (Nina) Jackson of AL; Ojah Vasser of NC; and Christian Hooks of KS, great-grand daughter Kensley Jackson of AL, and Caliyah Owens of FL; aunts, Ruth Smith and Bernadine Tolan of Georgia, and Ruthie Mae Williams of Montgomery; and adopted sister Isay Gulley and a host of other extended family and friends. Funeral services 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 7, 2020 at St. John MB Church with visitation on Friday 6-8 PM both services at the church. Smith-Young FH & CS.
