A Celebration of Life In Memory of Ruth Ann Cowart Age 90

November 18, 1929 -January 19,2020

On January 19, 2020, Ruth Ann Cowart was granted her heavenly wings peacefully in her home. Ruth was born November 18,1929 in Columbia, Mississippi to the union of the late Larena Haynes, On February 28, 1948 she was united in holy matrimony to Lieutenant Cowart, Sr.

Ruth was an only child. She had a smile and laugh that was infectious. It left an imprint on the hearts and souls of anyone she encountered. John 5:12 says, “This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you. Ruth carried this with her every day of her life. Loving and helping others was second nature to her.

Ruth attended school in Marion County. After finishing school, she worked as a homemaker, hairdresser and as a cafeteria employee with the public-school system.

Ruth was a devoted and faithful member of New Zion United Methodist Church, a member of the Body of Hope and United Methodist Women.

Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a very dear friend.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jasper and Larena Hayes; her only granddaughter, Synthia “Shonda” Odom.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a son Lieutenant Cowart Jr. two great granddaughters, Nikki Galloway and Cha‘Nice Caples; a great-great granddaughter whom she loved and greatly adored, Kynleigh Galloway. She behind a loving sister-in-law, Clota Craft and two loving brothers-in-law Curtis “CA” Cowart and Mero Cowart; two special cousins, Daisy Whalum and Mary Whalum and a host of cousins and friends.

Services were held on Saturday February 1, 2020 at New Zion United Methodist Church, Columbia Mississippi, Elder Mark Jones Officiating Pastor.
