MR. CHRISTOPER JAMES SMITH, affectionately known as Chris, son of the late Robert Jefferson Smith and the late Lelia Bell Rice Smith was born September 27, 1963 in Brunswick County, VA and departed this life suddenly March 1, 2020 at VCU-Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Smith.

At an early age he was baptized and joined Zion Union RZUA Church, Lawrenceville, VA. He attended Brunswick High School. Chris was employed for thirty plus years with Brick and Tile Cooperation, Lawrenceville, VA.

Chris was joined in holy matrimony to Bonita Gaitor on January 11, 2013.

Chris enjoyed watching football and rooting for his favorite team, THE PITTSBURG STEELERS. He also enjoyed listening to music and spending time with family and friends.

Chris will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife- Bonita Smith of the home; son- George D. Gaitor, Warfield, VA; four step-daughters, Chrisha (Jhomari) Grandison, Dinwiddie, VA; Alexis Gaitor, Hopewell, VA; Te’Onna Gaitor, South Hill, VA; Thereka Gaitor, Chester, VA; 17 grandchildren; two sisters- Carolyn Martin, Lawrenceville, VA; Eleanor Adams, Emporia, VA; one brother- Robert D. (Mary) Smith, White Plains, VA; mother-in-law, Barbara Gaitor, Brodnax, VA; sister-in-law, Renee’ (Corey) Poarch, Brodnax, VA; brother-in-law, Robert A. Gaitor, III, Brodnax, VA; five aunts; two uncles; Godchild- Tavoris Chavis, Brodnax, VA; devoted friend- Carl Bright, Lawrenceville, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers, and friends.
