Obituary For Elsie Lee Rockwell

The funeral services for the late Mrs. Elsie Lee Rockwell of 1305 Carter Road, Sylvester, Georgia, who departed this life on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at her residence, will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the New St. James Baptist Church in Oakfield, Georgia, with the Reverend Samuel B. Stokes, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in the New St. James Baptist Church Cemetery in Oakfield, Georgia.

Mrs. Elsie Lee Perry Rockwell was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. William and Edna Fowler Perry on November 17, 1926 in Douglas, Georgia. She was the youngest of twelve children. All of her siblings have preceded her in death.

At the age of twelve, Elsie Lee accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Charity Grove Baptist Church in Oakfield, Georgia. Later in life, Elsie Lee moved her membership to Blue Springs Baptist Church, where she was a faithful and dutiful member for more than seventy years. She held the various offices in the church, which included Church Secretary, Missionary Board Secretary, and lastly, Mother of the Church.

On September 9, 1944, Elsie Lee married the late Deacon Sammie Lee Rockwell. To this union, nine children were born. Five of her children have preceded her in death.

On Saturday, March 7, 2020, at her home, Elsie Lee Rockwell was called by God to come and take her Eternal Rest. Her work was done here on this earth.

Elsie Lee leaves to cherish her memories her children, Mrs. Mable (John) J. Rockwell Jackson, Mrs. Glory A. Rockwell Stuart, Ms. Joyce A. Rockwell, and Mr. Clyde R. Rockwell, all of Sylvester, Georgia; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; her nieces, nephews, cousins, and other sorrowing friends.
