Obituary For Shirley Ruth McGhee Wilson

Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Ruth McGhee Wilson, 70, will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Terry's Mortuary Chapel. Brother David Johnson will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The funeral service will be limited to immediate family only.

On Saturday, May 14, 1949, Mrs. Shirley Ruth Wilson began this walk of life to the union of Frank McGhee and Lucille McClurkin Garrett in Talladega, Alabama.

Mrs. Wilson worshipped at Tinney Street Church of Christ along side her husband. She attended school in the city of Talladega and completed her education at Westside High School. After completing school, Shirley and her family relocated to Buffalo, New York. After returning to Alabama, she was employed with Tyson Foods, Johnny’s Drive-in, Talladega Healthcare Center, KFC and Campbell’s BBQ. She was known to be a loving caregiver to those that were in need. On March 24, 1993, Shirley and Wayne Wilson were united in holy matrimony and remained in covenant until her passing.

On Sunday, March 15, 2020, Shirley began her eternal walk at Princeton Baptist Medical Center. She was preceded in passing by parents, Frank McGhee and Lucille Garrett; two brothers, Johnny McGhee and Gordon Garrett; one sister, Mary Belle Calhoun; and one grandson, Jontavius Pearson.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband of twenty-six years, Wayne Wilson of Talladega, Alabama; one daughter, Gwendolyn (Ronald) Nurse of Talladega, Alabama; two sons, Terrence Swain of Talladega, Alabama and Lydell (Flora) Swain of Alpine, Alabama; ten grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Marie (James) Haynes of Talladega, Alabama and Lisa Garrett of Birmingham, Alabama; three brothers, Alphonzo Garrett and Willie C. (Elizabeth) Garrett of Talladega, Alabama and Melvin (Francella “Frankie”) Garrett of Anniston, Alabama; five sisters-in-law, Lezell McGhee of Detroit, Michigan, Benita (Harry) Gooden of Oxford, Alabama, Barbara Spratling, Linda Wilson and Bernice Garrett of Talladega, Alabama; four brothers-in-law, Dewitt (Rena) Wilson of Munford, Alabama; Billy Wilson, Woodrow (Shirley Mae) Wilson and Sylvester (Shirley Ann) Wilson of Talladega, Alabama; a special niece, Minister JoAnn McGhee of Detroit, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
