Obituary For Ellen Anderson

Ellen Oradee Anderson was born September 1, 1924 in Lumberton, Mississpi to the late Shelly and Lola Philemon Weary. She was the youngest of six sisters. Ellen was affectionately known as Dee, Grandma Dee and GG.

As a young woman, she attended McKinley High School in Baton Rouge, Louisana and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisana, where she pledeged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She worked for the City of Los Angeles, California, retiring after 30 years of service. Ellen also worked for Fairfax County, Virginia as the Director of the Fairfax County Area Agency of Aging, before retiring a second time. She was devoted to serving the Lord and was one of the first lady Deacons ordained at Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. At Alfred Street Baptist Church she also served as Church Clerk and Choir Director.

As a loving mother and wife, Ellen was blessed with three children, Brita, Timothy and Craig. Ellen was married to Clarence L. Anderson and they traveled extensively all around the world. Ellen enjoyed cooking, writing poetry, jazz music, square dancing, singing second soprano, she performed with Eugene Wright. She was also an award winning floral designer.

Ella Oradee Anderson was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Geraldine Fears, Ernestine Hibbler, Doris Galloway, Shirley Place and Annette Grubbs, her son, Timothy James Stattion and her husband, Clarence. After the death of her husband, she relocated to Ray City, Georgia where she built her home from scratch, to be closer to her family.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted children, Brita J’Tan Glenn (Anthony), Craig Anthony Tennell, Beverly Anderson, David Anderson, Harold Anderson, Sr. and Carl Anderson; Grandchildren, Shelly Lonya Bryant, Phillip Mark Elliott Bryant, Richell Royce Hart and Harold Anderson II; Great – Grandchildren, Royce, Taylor, Arron, Julian, Phillip, Jr. Anthony, Ki, Joshua, Myja, Lonyea, Isaiah; Great Great-Grandchildren, Keyon, Zephaniah and Malani; A host of other sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Ellen O. Anderson will be held Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Royal Touch Events, 212 West Street, Valdosta, Georgia, Pastor Jimmy Boyd, Officiating. Burial: National Memorial Park Cemetery, Falls Church, Virginia.

Public Viewing: 12:00-7:00 PM – Friday, March 20, 2020 in the BTW Chapel.
