Obituary For Elder Wayne Hicks

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.

Friday, April 10, 2020 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM – There will be a private family viewing and visitation at Smith Funeral Home, 307 S. Johns Street, Florence, SC 29506; thus following orders of Smith Funeral Home- 10 or less people in the funeral home at a time.

Saturday, April 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM – A private family Graveside Service at Sunset Memory Gardens of Florence, SC

Arrangements regarding an official Memorial Service/Celebration of Life (where all can attend) will be announced at a later time once conditions are safely lifted and clearances are given from the Chief Overseer and governmental higher officials.

Elder Wayne Lyrone Hicks of Raleigh, NC transitioned from his earthly life to his heavenly home on Monday, March 16, 2020 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

He was a lifetime member of The House of God Church, Inc. Keith Dominion for 43 years. He has served in many capacities on the local, state, & national levels of The House of God Church, Inc. Keith Dominion. In January 1985, he was saved at the age of 8 years old in Baltimore, Maryland.

He served as an Educator in the states of Maryland and North Carolina. He also served as a School Administrator for many years in the state of North Carolina.

He leaves to cherish his memories, loving and devoted wife, Reverend LaTasha Hicks of Raleigh, North Carolina; loving mother, Elder Charlotte Sims of Jacksonville, NC; father, William Hicks Sr. of Baltimore, MD; brother, William Hicks Jr.(Tunnica) of Nashville, TN; and sister, Christal Sims Wilson (Keyth) of Raleigh, NC. From the father's extended side of the family, he also leaves to cherish his brothers, Windell Hicks and Matthew Hicks; sisters, Latasha Robinette Lee Hicks, Miracle Hicks, Myra Hicks, a host of other family members, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins & friends too numerous to name.

Wayne...as we so happily called him, was not only a very playful guy but a true man of GOD!!! I remember meeting him through my husband, Marvin, and from that moment on until he moved down to North Carolina, Wayne was ALWAYS a shining light in a room full of darkness!!! He ALWAYS wore that SMILE that could light up the darkest room AND he was very sincere at what he had to say. Work can not express my deepest condolences. I will miss being able to enjoy fellowship together in pedagogy. Wayne was committed to our children and he had such a spirit that connected to both introverts and extroverts. Wayne spiritual personality allowed him to interact well with all people. Trial Elder Hicks knew how to make me laugh. We will cherish the times being with him. He enjoyed the young people.I remember he came over to pick up his godson Malachi, and the visit was so spiritual we almost had church and he prayed a prayer before leaving. He's my brother that I took to heart as my blood brother. He will continue to be in our hearts. We will continue to keep Rev. Hicks, Elder Sims and all the family in our prayers. Much love Rev.
