She retired from Mary Black Hospital where she enjoyed working and caring for others.
Garnell was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Where she served on the Chancel Choir, YWA and YMA Ministries and as an Honorary Member of Pastor’s Aide.
She loved gardening and participating in community activities. Mrs. Burgess also loved cooking. She was a member of the Forest Park Community Association.
Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her daughters, Rubye (Donald) Dawkins, Ola Phillips and Norma Foster of Spartanburg,SC; her son, Leon (Carla) Burgess of Charlotte, NC; her sister, Angie Dover of Spartanburg, SC; her two brothers, George (Caponia) Blackley and Floyd (Mary) Blackley both of Chesnee, SC; her six grandchildren; her fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Garnell was predeceased by: her spouse, Talmadge Burgess; three sons, Kenneth Foster, Van Foster and Wayne Burgess; two sisters, Jeanette Wilkins and Ersell Simpson; and a brother, Thomas Blackley.
Graveside Services for Mrs. Garnell Blackley Burgess will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at New Bedford Baptist Church Cemetery, 210 New Bedford Church Rd., Campobello, SC. Rev. Dr. B. D. Snoddy will officiate.
