Mrs.Petrula Phillips Watkins Sunrise | November 16, 1931 Sunset | April 4, 2020

Petrula Phillips Watkins, daughter of the late Irene P. Jones and David Spencer, was born November 16, 1931 and peacefully entered eternal rest on the morning of April 4, 2020 at her home in Easton Maryland.

Petrula was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers- George and James, and three sisters, Elizabeth, Martha and Mary.

At an early age, she was baptized and joined the North View Baptist Church. She attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools. Petrula moved to Easton, Maryland and later married Charlie Watkins who preceded her in death. During her employment years, she worked several jobs before being employed by Airpax Philips Electronics North America Corporation where she worked until she retired. She continued part-time work at Ayers/Colonial Laundromat until her health declined.

Petrula was a compassionate person who loved her family and neighbors. Having a kind spirit, she was a friend to all and would open her home to those who needed somewhere to stay. She loved to cook delicious meals and often prepared enough to share with family and friends in the community. One of the things she felt great joy in doing was sharing family history as well as recalling childhood memories.

Petrula leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter, Rose Ann Phillips of the home, a loving granddaughter, Annette Phillips of Easton, MD; a niece whom she raised, Flora Gregory (Tyrone) Sampson; two sisters, Lonell Maddox of Kenbridge, VA and Jeanette (John) Thompson of South Hill, VA; two brothers, Lawrence Rainey of Portsmouth, VA, Marvin (Mona) Rainey of South Hill, VA; two devoted nephews that she viewed as grandsons, Tyree Gregory and Antoine Gregory both of Easton, MD, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
