One of the best that loved and believed in family! I looked forward to Uncle Oscars visits as a child and was honored when he attended all major events to celebrate me as an adult. Thought it was very special that he continued to celebrate me often with my daughter over social media. Taking the time to mail old photos and share old family tales - just being Uncle Oscar. I believe my mother loved him best and know they are celebrating with other family members in Heaven. He will be missed. With Deepest Sympathy, Melissa Gooding-Hayes and Family, Fairfax, Virginia

Lo and Family, Our hearts go out to you on the loss of Oscar. He loved his family, his friends, and enjoyed and loved life to the fullest. He had such a kind, gentle, unselfish and loving spirit. He was a magnet for kids who wanted him to be their uncle or godfather, including my two James and Eric. It will always make us "smile" when we think of E 51st street and all the "smiles" we shared there and over the years. He was a true friend/brother. We will miss him dearly, his pop calls and thinking of you cards. May it bring comfort to you to know: OUR HEARTS ARE ALSO BROKEN. LaVerne and David Moses

A good heart has stopped beating and a good soul has transitioned. Words may not suffice to express the heartfelt sorrow that I feel for the passing of your loved one Oscar. My tears are flowing also for a great guy. God rest his soul in peace. Oscar was my classmate but also my true friend. I met Oscar in 9th grade and we marched together as we graduated from high school in Fairfax, SC. When we became adults thousands of miles apart at times could not destroy the friendship we shared. Many times he called me his sister. He was an amazing guy who looked for the good in others and always kept in touch. Many times the phone rang and when I answered he simply said, " I'm just checking on you". One of the last conversations we had he reminded me how many years it's been since we graduated from high school and he was going to try to come South in June to celebrate. Oscar is such a great loss. Deloris, may God bless you with the strength to bear the toughest days ahead. I do understand because my husband passed less than three months ago. With much pain I extend my deepest sympathies to you and all of your family. Sincere condolences. Mozelle Simmons Richmond Class of 1960

To my dear Uncle OJ, Words are not enough to express how I feel. You were that uncle that always shot it to me straight. Your inspiring words that you've shared with me over the years during my troubling times were heartfelt honest and helped keep me on the straight and narrow. You meant so much to so many. You will be forever missed. We love you Uncle Oscar! Rest in Paradise!

Uncle Oscar was an amazing man. He was giving, caring, and loving. He lived life to the fullest and didn't let grass grow under his feet. He was God's faithful servant and God called him home. I'm very thankful for the time I got to spend with him. I loved hearing about all the placed he'd been and the things he did. My prayers are with his family during this especially difficult time. My heart aches knowing that our time here in this system of things has come to an end . Thank you grandpa for always showing us "rugrats" what true love looks like . Thank you for taking care of us for all these years and showing us how to fight through this crazy thing called life. So many memories have been flooding my mind this past week. How you smiled through everything . Through the ups and downs in life . I've seen you define odds and come out stronger than any of us could've imagine. But even the best fighters become tired sometimes . And that's okay. You fought a long and tough fight ! I find comfort in knowing that you are no longer suffering . No more pain and no more illness. Grandma , Pops, Lauren, and Devin literally can't wait to catch you up on everything I'm paradise , in a time where death will be no more , where pain and suffering will be no more . We're going to make you proud! Love you forever and always gramps ! Love Amber (a.k.a your Ambie Bambi)

Uncle Oscar White so many things come to mind when I think of you but the one thing that best describes you is Pure genuine love!! You had the greatest love for your family and for life itself. I remember how excited everyone would get at the very mention of you coming to visit us here in Savannah. Whenever you showed up the entire family would cone together. That my love speaks volumes as to who you were as a man. When my daddy ( Napoleon Ruth Sr.) called to inform me of ur final resting he was heartbroken as was I but in the mist of the sad news my words to my daddy were all is well. He has lived a full rewarding and selfish life. We've had the pleasure of having him in our lives and he will continue to be amongst us all as our personal earth Angel! We love u beyond life my dear and the great memories of your time spent here with us only gives us more reason to celebrate your life, love and your commitment to family.
