She accepted CHRIST at an early age by when she joined Mount Zion C.M.E. Church in Hamilton, GA under the leadership of Rev. Dewey B. Huff Sr. She was very direct, and meant every word she said. She loved her family and friends.
Betty started her early education at Carver Elementary and Carver High School; but she graduated from Harris County High School. Betty obtained her nursing degree from Troup County Technical College and worked for many years for the Talbot County Health Department.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Edward Lee Smith.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Edward Lee Smith; and siblings: Charlie Mae Murphy, Elbert Lee Murphy, Isaiael Murphy, and Leroy Murphy.
Her memories will be cherished by two devoted daughters: Angela Murphy and Cauline Michelle Brown; one son: Edwin Jamal (Shannon) Smith; three sisters: Cora Coverson, Mamie Owens and Amy Murphy; three aunts: Zadie Pearl Williams, Ethel Pollard, and Emma Cotton; two uncles: Willie Henry Hudson and Bobby Hudson; two sisters-in-law: Mamie Lou Nelson and Lizzie Cofer; grandchildren: Adrian Daniel, Kymani Smith, Americia Smith, Cortez Richardson, Messiah Jones, Harmony Brown, Diante Brown and Ava Jackson; special friends: Margaret Copeland, Dorothy Mae Tucker and Debra Crowder and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
