Mesel Lena McLaurin, 100, took the angel's hand to ascended to Heaven on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020. She was a faithful member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She was born Friday, October 24, 1919 in Magee, Mississippi, in the Skiffa Community. She attended Alcorn A & M College and received her BA Degree in Home Economics. She also received her MA degree from the University of Illinois. She taught in the Jackson Public Schools System for 35 years. She was preceded in death by her husband. The Reverend J B McLaurin, Sr and daughter, Mrs. Evelyn McLaurin Cain. She leaves to mourn; her son, Dr Joseph McLaurin, Jr. (Toya) of Germantown, TN: 3 grandchildren, Mrs. Erica Cain Walker ( Tommy) of Arlington, VA.; Dr. Nicholas Cain (Elaytheia) of Chicago, IL; Kyla Mesel Lena McLaurin of Germantown, TN and 3 great-grandchildren, Tatiana Walker, Zoe Cain, Pheonix Cain and a host of relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2020, at R S Lewis & Sons Funeral Home, 2944 Walnut Grove, Memphis, Tennessee. Funeral service will be at 12:00 PM on Friday at Garden Memorial Park located at 8001 US Highway 49 Jackson, Mississippi 39209. Interment will be in Garden Memorial Park, Jackson, MS.
