Obituary For HaLeayah Lanett Swain

Graveside services for Miss HaLeayah Swain, 8, will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Prophet Darrell Keith will officiate. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2020.

HaLeayah Lanett Swain was the blessing bestowed upon Phillis Carmichael and Lee Lawson on Friday, November 18, 2011 in Birmingham, Alabama.

HaLeayah was a member of Destiny Mission under the leadership of Prophet Darrell Keith and Co-Pastor Dorothy Keith. She was currently a second grader at Lincoln Elementary School. From a very early age, HaLeayah was a very special gift to her family and was a true testament of signs, wonders and miracles from God. At 29 1/2 weeks gestation, she entered this world weighing in at 2lbs and 5 ozs. From the day that she was born, her grandmother began teaching her about the goodness of God and the blessing of his son, Jesus. Because of her premature birth, HaLeayah has always been a fighter overcoming a total of forty-two surgeries during her short lifetime of which five were on her brain. She persevered through many obstacles including outliving the two years of life that the doctors expected her to live. When she was not at school or spending with her family, HaLeayah enjoyed watching movies and her favorite channel to watch was Disney. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Curious George often captured her attention.

On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, HaLeayah answered the call of her Lord and Savior at Children’s Hospital of Alabama. She was preceded in passing by her grandfather, Harold Carmichael.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her parents, Phillis (Michael Turner) Carmichael of Lincoln, Alabama and Minister Lee Lawson of Childersburg, Alabama; her grandmother, Louise Carmichael of Talladega, Alabama; her big sister, Fanasia Swain of Lincoln, Alabama; six sisters and four brothers; two aunts, Galinda Richardson and Virginia Carmichael of Talladega, Alabama; two uncles, Kendrick (Lachina) Carmichael of Pell City, Alabama and Harold (Trinita) Carmichael, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; a special father, Harvey Swain of Alpine, Alabama; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
