Obituary For Mary Doris Holsendolph Winston

Mary Doris Holsendolph Winston, an active member of the Brooks County community for more than 40 years, died Monday, April 13, 2020. She was 78. Doris retired from the Bell Telephone Company after 30 years before she began her 20 plus year employment at Morven Community Bank. Doris was a familiar figure in the bank where she specialized in lending. Doris was also an active member of the Courtland Street Church of Christ in Quitman, GA.

Ms. Winston was born in Brooks County on July 13, 1941. She was the youngest of 5 children born to Ethel and Wallace Holsendolph. The Holsendolph family migrated to Cleveland, Ohio in the early 1940’s when Doris was an infant. She and her siblings attended Cleveland public schools.

Doris married Alex Winston and from that union was born daughter Jacqueline, who was at her bedside when she died on Monday. After a divorce in the mid-1970’s, Mary and Jacque moved south to Morven, GA. For many years, she lived with and aided her parents.

Doris is survived by daughter Jacque (and husband Andre), and grandsons Jared and Miles Wallace. She is also survived by her older brother, Ernest Holsendolph of Stone Mountain, GA. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She also leaves many cousins in the Brooks County area that she saw on a regular basis.

Please continue to keep the Holsendolph-Winston families in your daily thoughts and prayers.

I worked with Ms. Doris at the bank, she was a great lady. I missed her when she left the bank, but got to see her ever once in a while. I will really miss her. I loved that lady.

I became acquainted with Mary at Bellsouth in Valdosta where we became good friends. She and her mother often had me and my children at their home for food on holidays. I later met her Brother, Ernest at Hillcrest Church of Christ in Atlanta where we became friends.
