Obituary For June Ziglar Carter

Mrs. June Ziglar Carter, 95 died Sunday, May 3, 2020. PRIVATE SERVICE WILL BE HELD

June Ziglar Carter, affectionately known as “Granny June” to all that knew her, was born in Sandy Ridge, NC. She lived her entire life there until her health failed. She went home to eternal rest on Sunday, May 3, 2020. She was born April 3, 1925 to the late James and Mary Ziglar. June joined Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church at a very young age and was a faithful member. Although, she never learned to drive, Granny June never missed a Sunday service, weekend meeting, annual June meeting or any event held, no matter where – for her church. Her faithful Pastor Elder Joe Scales and his wife, Sister Penny or other friends/family would pick her up and off they would go. Granny June loved serving God.

Although a Granny to many, her grandson, Mike was her pride and joy. She assisted in his raising and he was always there for her. Granny would tell us that Mike had come by to check on her, bringing food, chopping wood, taking her to the store and even caring for her lawn. Mike & his wife, Teresa continued their care, after Granny had to move in with her daughter, Mary Alice and during her stay at Penn Center Nursing Home. Granny June also had four very special children in her life-The Amos Four, Robin, Lorri, Ginger, and Art. She helped raise them and spoke of them often. There was never a Christmas, birthday or Mother’s Day that they did not visit Granny to show her love and shower her with gifts. They continued showing their love, well after she left Stokes County. Her primary caregiver was her precious daughter, Mary Alice. Mary and June traveled together, went to church and loved to shop together. Mary took Granny on her first beach trip – she said the ocean never ended. They also traveled to Nashville, TN to visit her grandson, Dexter. This was the furthest away from Sandy Ridge that Granny had ever been. Mary took care of her Mother until her death, a faithful daughter. Granny June loved flowers, during the Spring and Summer you could expect to see the front porch overflowing with greenery and blooming flowers. Her green thumb was a gift from God and she enjoyed planting & caring for them. June never worked a public job, was loved by her community and made a living helping them farm, ironing, cleaning and raising their children. She was loved by her Sandy Ridge families and they checked on her faithfully. She held, the honor of Mother of the Community. Granny June raised three very special children of her own. William, a Vietnam Veteran, Geraldine, an avid gardener and cook and Mary Alice who was her faithful caregiver. All a testimony to Granny’s unwavering character and faithfulness due to God. She was also preceded in death by her son, affectionally known as Baby Roy, son, William Andrew Carter, Jr., daughter, Geraldine Martin. Sisters, Hester Moore, Mary Francis Webster, brothers, Benjamin and Otto Brim, granddaughter, Alice Mae Anderson, grandsons, William Carter, Haywood Anderson, Jr., son-in-law, JB Winslow Welch, Jr., great grandson, Jaylyn Welch. Left to cherish her memory: her daughter; Mary Alice Craddock, son/grandson; Mike Carter (Teresa), grandchildren; Teresa Anderson (Johnny), Fonda Welch, Dexter Welch, Travis Welch, Tracy Mills (Terry), Phyllis Martin, Allen Martin, William A. Carter, III, a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, other relatives and special friends.
