Obituary For Ms.Annette Hathaway Merritt

Ms. Annette Hathaway Merritt was born on January 3, 1944, in Barnesville, Lamar County, GA to the parents of the late Mrs. Melvis Gardner Hathaway and the late Mr. Joseph Hathaway. Annette was a long-time resident of Lamar County and a member of East Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. She loved her church and served faithfully in the Missionary Society for many years. Her faith kept her throughout her life’s journey, she never questioned, “Why me?” and she never complained. Her strong intimate relationship with Jesus was an example for all who knew her. Annette was educated in the Lamar County School System, she attended Booker High School where she graduated with honors. After graduating, she had many experiences and one was having the opportunity to live abroad in Frankfurt, Germany. Before moving in with her daughters, she lived with her oldest sister, Ms. Rosalie Miller, who was her primary caregiver for many years. We cannot thank her enough for the love she showed our mom. In September 2017, the decision was made for her relocate to live with her daughters in Jonesboro, GA and Ellenwood, GA. Annette’s favorite hobby was to crochet, and she could crochet hats and scarves so fast; it was amazing. While living with her daughters, she crocheted several afghans, hats and scarves for her family. She loved going out to eat. She enjoyed watching Jai play football and performing in several plays. She loved listening to Simeon play his guitar and serenade her, she would have the biggest smile. Her outings with Cynthia, Naaria, and Quentin to the State Fair were some of her best memories. She enjoyed movie night with Stephanie and Anthony with her bowl of popcorn. She loved cooking for her family. Her spaghetti dinners were awesome! She was an avid walker. She would walk the neighborhood and speak to everyone she saw along the way. On Saturday, April 25, 2020, the Lord decided it was time for Annette to end this earthly journey, and she entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mae Helen Mack, Sarah Harp, Marlene Walker, Dorothy Lee O’Neal, and Annie Maude Washington -Irvin.
