At an young age, Elfreida joined White Oak African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Van Wyck, S.C., She moved to Charlotte, N.C. and transferred her membership to Clement Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. As a member of Clement Memorial, Efreida served as the church secretary for forty-five years, President of the Lay Council, on the Trustee Board, a member of the Adult/Senior Choir, a Sunday School Teacher, a delegate to District/Annual Conferences, General Conferences, a delegate to various Lay Council Conventions, Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society Conventions, and Christian Educations.
Those left to celebrate her life are her son, Dr. Anthony Witherspoon ,Saint Louis, MO; granddaughters, Brittany Lashae Witherspoon Agossadou (Gauthier) and Anquanette Sherree Witherspoon, Saint Louis, MO; great grandsons Anthony Noland Ingram and Sede Zion Agossadou, Saint Louis, MO; three sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Blake (Herman), Charlotte, NC, Mrs. Geraldine Johnson (Lynn ) Rock Hill, SC, Mrs. Bobbie Johnson, Lancaster, SC; three brothers, Ernest Witherspoon (Connie), Lancaster, SC, James Witherspoon, III (Barbara ), Lancaster, SC and Herbert Witherspoon (Phyllis ) Hamilton, OH; and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews.
A private service will be12:00 pm Monday, May 11, 2020 at Stewart Funeral Home in Heath Springs, SC. with burial in the White Oak AME Zion Church Cemetery. Services will be conducted by the Reverend Edwin Ferguson and Reverend Sheila Herron. Viewing will be Sunday 1:00- 5:00 pm. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic only ten people will be allowed in the building at a time.
