Obituary For Joseph N. Morgan, Sr.

The late Mr. Joseph N. Morgan, Sr. of Sylvester, Georgia, departed this life on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

A private ceremony for the family will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shepard Memorial Garden Cemetery in Sylvester, Georgia. The Reverend Dr. Reginald Hunter will bring Words of Comfort.

Mr. Joseph Nathaniel Morgan, Sr. was born October 29, 1928 to Cilla and Alonzo Morgan in South Carolina.

Joseph was educated in the Worth County School System, graduating from Oak Hill High in 1947. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Army. Always recognizing the value of an education, Joseph graduated from Fort Valley State College with a Bachelor’s of Science in education in 1957.

On May 24, 1954, Joseph married the only love of his life Rowena Rogers. In 1955, he accepted Christ in his life and was baptized with his youngest daughter at Brooks Chapel Baptist Church in Sylvester, Georgia.

A lifelong learner himself, Joseph passed down his thirst for knowledge to many when he taught in the Worth County School system for over twenty years before retiring in 1985. Forever an educator, he did not remain retired long before accepting a teaching position at Turner Job Corps, where he taught for over ten years before retiring.

Joseph was a simple man; he enjoyed fishing, photography, thrift shopping, and spending time with his family. He was always considered the “MacGyver” in the family as he was always tinkering with gadgets he would find at a flea market or around the house.

Mr. Joseph Nathaniel Morgan, Sr. gave up this busy walk of life on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and son Lewis Rogers.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Rowena Morgan; their children, Laurastene Rogers, Joseph Morgan, Jr., and Lottie Powell; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one, and one of my teachers. I offer my condolences. A scripture that has helped me in my time of loss is Psalm 94:19 When anxieties overwhelmed me, you comforted and soothed me. And John 5:28,29 says, Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. These words from our Sovereign and Creator have comforted me and I hope they will do the same for you.
