Obituary For Leroy Sheppard, Sr.

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.

Private Graveside Service for Mr. Leroy Shepherd will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Sunset Memory Gardens, 2615 Alligator Road, Effingham, SC. Interment will follow, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Mr. Leroy “Shep” Shepherd was born on June 10, 1945 in Florence County, South Carolina to the late Alford Shepherd and Georgiana Ann Robinson Shepherd. He departed this life on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.

Leroy attended the Public Schools of Florence County and was a graduate of Wilson High School Class of 1964.

Leroy was employed with General Electric and retired after many years of service. He was later employed with Florence School District One and after several years of employment he retired.

Leroy was predeceased by his parents, Alford and Georgiana Shepherd.

Leroy leaves to cherish his love and memories: a daughter, Sandra Shepherd of Florence, South Carolina; a son Leroy Shepherd of Florence, South Carolina; two sisters, Evenly Lyde and Beatrice S. Dowdy both of Florence, South Carolina; a brother, John Henry Shepherd of Florence, South Carolina; three stepchildren, James, Tonya, and Pinnix Dorshawn Jones all of Charlotte, North Carolina; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two special nieces, Georgia “Marie Lyde” (James) Spell of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Helen Robinson Holyfield of Florence, South Carolina; and a host of nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
