Diane, my deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. I am praying that God will comfort you all at this difficult time. I knew James for many years as his coworker and friend at NCDOT. We would have many conversations about many different topics. We would talk about his love of bowling as well as yours. We would also talk about family. One thing that stood out was his love of family. James will be missed by many but please find comfort in knowing that he is at home with his Heavenly Father. God bless you and your family! Diane, my name is Carl Pickney, a former colleague of James during his time with the NC Department of Transportation. In December of 1993, when I joined the department James was my first supervisor. We worked together for many years and he was a great colleague to work with. Over the years, we connected many times in the workplace and he was always the quiet gentleman in the room. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. My family sends our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. We will continue to pray for the family. It was a pleasure working with James on the SADLS team. He was a humble man with gentle spirit and a big heart. He always had words of wisdom for every situation. Please know that he no longer has sickness or pain, but is now at rest. He loved and cherished his family so much and loved you even more as you all worked hard to care for him. He is so proud of each you and what you have become. Although your life has been forever changed, and it hurts, he has left you with a wonderful legacy. A legacy that lives in you. Keep your memories of him close to your heart. I promise one day you will smile again. Praying that the God of Peace will give you strength, joy, and PEACE. The Utley Family, Raleigh, NC

As James was not only a sincere joy to have as a coworker; after many years of working together he became a great friend also. Whenever I needed a laugh, all he had to do was stick his head in my cubicle and the laughter would began, even before he said a word. He often encouraged me and was willing to listen to my life struggles, even though he had his owns. Diane thank you so much for participating with us at work at different functions, as not only support for James, but being apart of the DIT family. We appreciate your kindness over the years. I pray that God allows your heart to heal and that your spirit rest assured knowing that he is in the arms of the Lord (no better place) ...free from all worries, pain, and concerns of this world. Please stay strong and know that I will constantly pray for you and you family's peace at this very delicate time. James will be greatly missed. With Sincere Love and Many Blessings; Leslie Cromwell; Raleigh NC.
