I thought she was a terrible person. Worst teacher I ever had

Dr. Hooks was my professor and also acted as Director of Teacher Education program while I underwent my Student teaching. Dr. Hooks was an incredibly poised woman with a charisma unmatched. She not only taught the pedagogy needed to matriculate through Dear Langston, she taught life lessons as well. She offered opportunities for me that I never had before. I was able to travel with her to DC for a pre service teachers conference twice and meet various people and network. She headed the SOEA (Student Oklahoma Educators Association) at Langston where she inspired me to actively participate in and hold office. She wrote my letter of recommendation for my sorority and we then became Sorors. The capacity of distinction and honor Dr. Hooks embodied will be remembered from everyone she encountered. I know God has told you, "Good job my Faithful servant." God bless the family and you're in my thoughts and prayers. Crystal Barker

Dr. Hooks was a mentor to me throughout my undergraduate and graduate career. She really provided opportunities that I know I would never have had. She was prestigious and wanted to sharpen others to a higher degree. Her words were always true. She refined me and made me the teacher that I am today! I will forever be grateful to Dr. Hooks. She was a gem and always wanted to help uncover the gem in others. Willa Barker Langston University Class of 2005

Dr. Hooks made me believe that I could be so much more than what my small town offered. She saw things in me that I didn't see in myself. Although I haven't spoken to Dr. Hooks since our time at Langston University I have often times reflected on her words of wisdom. I am deeply sorry for your loss. Chelsey Pendarvis Dorrough.
