Marcus and Todd: The purpose of this missive is to let you know that I am sorry for the death of your father, and I want you to know that I have you and your family in my prayers. Understandably, this must be a particularly difficult time for you; but the following words of comfort, I hope will enable you to get through this voided loss. Those we hold dear never truly leave us... They live on through the kindness they showed, the services they rendered and the joy and happiness they brought into our lives. When you reflect upon that statement, the loss of your father should be a little less painful for you. Therefore, I pass that statement on to you and your family with the hope that it will help sustain you and bring you successfully through this period. I extend to you and your family my sincere condolences and please know that my kindest and warmest thoughts are with you. --Walter Smith - Clinton, NC

It is with a heavy heart that I write expressions of love for my dear friend of over 55 years when I first met him and my dear late Soror Willie at Fayetteville State University. Charles and I started our first careers with Social Security Administration together. And though over the years we lived separate all over the states our friendship remained strong. Charles was such a kind and friendly person. Devoted to his family and loved his granddaughters. I am so blessed to have had him as a friend ~ the brother I never had. Marcus, Todd, and the entire Fryar family I pray that you find peace and comfort knowing that friends care. Lesterine Dancy Sturdivant, Class of '65 FSU.

Todd and Marcus, I was so sorry to hear of Charles's passing. I truly enjoyed getting to know both your late mother Willie and Charles in the 25 years that we lived and worked in New Bern. When Charles came over to NBHS from HJ McDonald, I got to work closely with him on many matters and truly enjoyed my time with him on those. He was professional, witty, and wise. He and I would spend lots of time talking about you both, and he especially enjoyed hearing about our Sunday night hoops games! I do hope that the memories of Charles will sustain you both during this time of sorrow and that you find comfort in knowing that he is with Willie now in the embrace of our Lord.
