I feel very blessed to have known Mr. Davis. He was the type of man that was true to himself and all that encountered him. He was the type of man that you could depend on in your time of need. I know from experience. While I was at Stillman, I was in a serious car accident. Mr. and Mrs. Davis opened their home for my mother and transported her back and forth to see me in the hospital. Mr. Davis even joined my Fraternity Brothers and friends sitting with me while I was in ICU. He even offered counsel to me after I returned to school and as an adult after my Stillman days. He will be missed. Our heavenly father knows best, and I thank him for the opportunity to know Mr. Joseph Davis. COL. Harold Sams Ret. (Class 82)

We extend heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Davis, Yvette, and Wendall on the loss of your loved one. Mr. Davis was not a man of many words but he was a kind, compassionate, humble, wise man of God who always welcomed you with a smile as big as his heart. We knew him as a neighbor in Oakridge, a coworker at Stillman, a friend, and as extended family. We pray God's grace and mercy for comfort for the family and may your beautiful memories of Joe remain in your hearts forever. Dr. Eddie B. and Elizabeth Thomas

Most of us know the poem, "Footprints." The loss of Mr. Joseph Davis left footprints on my heart, his beautiful wife, Mrs. Sarah Davis; daughter, Yvette; son, Wendall; grandchildren, other relatives, friends, many, many students who attended Stillman College along with faculty and staff. He always had a smile you could see and hear in his voice. If I could wrap his love in a ribbon, it would be my gift to the family. From my family, our deepest sympathy to The Joseph Davis Family.

In our minds,we know that to be absent in the flesh is to be in the presence of the lord ,and yet in our heart the selfishness of the human spirit finds it so hard to let go . It is hard to conjugate verbs and nouns in the past tense when referring to Uncle Joe.It was impossible not to feel good nor come away not feeling positive in the presence of uncle Joe .He was a quiet soft spoken man and yet his words carried meaning and action never a man to raise his voice but conscious. I watched with admiration the manner in which he carried himself how loving devoted and consistent he interacted with my aunt Sarah and my cousins Yvette and Wendell. Job well done you faithful servant wings well earned .God be with you until we meet again

Sending much love and many prayers to Cousin Sarah and family. May God grant you peace and comfort. Love and Blessings, Earlene and the entire Ft Lauderdale Striggles Family

Uncle Joe always had a smile on his face and he always had a kind word for everyone... I remember when he would visit us as children in Macon at Granny Mollie's house...he would always get up early to get breakfast plates for everyone from Krystals or McDonalds...that would make our day... You will be missed Uncle Joe! We love you...Prayers for Aunt Sarah, Wendall, Yvette, and family...

I write to bear witness to and affirm an " institution" at/of an institution. My condolence to Mrs. Davis and family. Mr. Joseph S. Davis provided an atmosphere of ease and assurance. He provided a path through a maze of financial assistance. Mr. Davis delivered. As a floundering Black youth who knew nothing, Mr. Davis was an illumination. Mr. Davis served as a guardian of financial services at a HBCU. Mr. Davis came through for the students at Stillman College. To this I affirm. As a student Mr. & Mrs. Davis welcomed me into their home. To -BREAK BREAD- with the family. He possessed and exhibited a long lasting smile. He was a PILLAR. Mr. Davis's execution of his duties and responsibilities at Stillman College was exemplary. He produced. He delivered for us. He was/ is a foundation for my life. If a student wanted to learn. To grow. To be educated. To strive. Mr. Davis could find financial support. Yes. I had a debt upon graduation. The debt was not a burden nor burdensome. It was a pleasure/ honor/ rewarding to have known and interacted with Mr. Davis, Mrs, Davis and his family. Mr. and Mrs. Davis were a married Black professional couple with a family. This reality was prior to a television program showing the rest of the world this was/ is a reality. An intact Black professional couple serving the community. Am a graduate of Stillman College. Had debt upon graduation. Debt was not an undue burden. Am now a retiree. Mr. Joseph S. Davis DID HIS JOB! .

Mr.Davis was always the same. He was stern but with much compassion. He didn't say much but he was always aware. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be exposed to such a stellar individual. Take your rest sir you have set the foundation.

To the family of the late Mr Joseph Davis: I can't help but remember the kindness that Mr Davis did for me at Stillman College. He offered me financial aid after I kept pursuing that I wanted a job in the Work and Study program. His exact words and I quote "I believe you really want to work" and because of his generosity I too graduated from Stillman in '72. You have our deepest sympathy and pray for strength and comfort to the family.
