Mae Bell Wright

Mae Bell Wright, 91, of Clyattville, GA was called to rest Friday evening, May 22, 2020. God sent his angels of peace into South Georgia Medical Center and set her free after a short term illness.

She was born to the late Warren and Bertha Kelley and was educated in the Branchville, South Carolina Public School System. Mae Bell married Thomas Leon Wright and together they relocated to New York City. There she was employed as a shop stewardess and a home health aide until retirement.

Mae Bell was baptized at Second Canaan Baptist Church and was a faithful member. She sung in “The Gospel Chorus”, took part in “The Busy Bee Club” and then went on to sing with the traveling group, “The Eltone Gospel Singers” for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Leon Wright; mother & father-in-law, David and Earleen Wright; sister, Clariss; brother, Warren Kelley, Jr.; daughter, Dorothy Wright; daughter-in-law, Sherrie Wright; son-in-law, Richard Roy Thomas; twenty-six brother & sister-in-laws.

She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories two daughters, Joyce Wright Gibson of Richmond, VA and Earleen Thomas of Valdosta, GA; four sons, Thomas Wright, Jr., Johnny B. Wright, Leroy Wright and Gregory Wright all of Valdosta, GA; eighteen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren, twenty four great great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Stanley Gibson of Richmond, GA; one sister, Evangeline Lecque of Bronx, NY; one sister-in-law, Annie Wright of South Carolina; three nephews, Nathaniel Wright of Valdosta, GA, Derrick Lecque and Adrian Kelley both of New York; also a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside service will be held Sunday, May 31, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Dr. Charles E. Vinson, officiating.
