Obituary For Elder Leroy Sanders

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.

A Private Funeral Service for Elder Leroy Michael Sanders, Sr. will be conducted 12 Noon Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Highway Christian Church of Christ, 637 South Gillard Street, Florence, SC. Interment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum, 3320 South Cashua Drive, Florence, SC, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Elder Leroy Michael Sanders, Sr. one of five children, was born on January 15, 1940, to the late John Sanders and Lori Jones Sanders. The angels of the Lord escorted him to his Heavenly Home Saturday, May 23, 2020. There he is with his Lord and Savior.

At an early age, Leroy dedicated his life to Christ and became an ordained minister. His life was filled with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and he began following His teachings.

Elder Sanders was joined in holy matrimony to Louise Cooper Sanders for 50 years and their union was blessed with two children.

Elder Sanders was a faithful member of Newman Pentecostal Holiness Church for years. Later he joined Highway Christian Church of Christ. He was a member of the Heavenly Gospel Singers. He enjoyed quartet music.

He was employed at Bruce Hospital diligently for several years, drove cab for State Taxi, and was also an employee of KFC. Elder Sanders attended Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree.

Elder Sanders took great pleasure in taking care of the church, painting, and nurturing his garden with wisdom and love.

Elder Sanders was preceded in death by his parents, John Sanders and Lori Jones Sanders.

Elder Sanders leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Louise Sanders of the home; one son, Leroy (Eslener) Sanders, Jr of Florence, South Carolina; one daughter, Beverly Sanders (Kacepers) Selie of Florence, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Tiffany Sanders (Brent) Mitchell and Jessica Selie both of Florence, South Carolina; three great grandchildren, Londyn Mitchell, Natalie Mitchell and Jaylen Selie all of Florence, South Carolina; three sisters, Naomi Addison, Arlene Sullivan, and Annie Mae Peace all of Florence, South Carolina; four brothers-in-laws, Joe (Helen) Cooper of Columbus, GA, John Cooper, James Cooper, Jr, and Nathaniel Cooper all of Florence, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ervin and Bobbie White both of Florence, South Carolina; and a host of many nephews; nieces; other relatives, church family; and friends.
