Obituary For Kenneth Heard

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.

A Private Funeral service for Mr. Kenneth H. Heard will be conducted 2 PM Thursday, June 4, 2020 at J.O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 S. Johns St., Florence. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Mr. Kenneth H. Heard affectionately known as Kenny, was born August 12, 1962, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Anna Lou Woods Heard and raised by his grandmother, Mary Lee Woods. He passed away from this life into eternal life on May 30, 2020, in a local hospital in Florence, South Carolina, after a brief illness.

Kenneth received his formal education in Susquehanna Township School District and was a graduate of Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He gained Higher Education from Alleghany Community College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Florence –Darlington Technical College in Florence, South Carolina, after relocating to Florence.

Kenny truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; showed up at neighborhood kids’ games, or other activities, cleaned apartments complex grounds, helped those in the neighborhood, chatted with and mentored kids used his ability to reach people in a deep and positive way, had a passion for music, an avid Pittsburgh Steelers football fan, and loved playing chess.

Kenny was formerly employed with General Electric as a Housekeeping Supervisor. South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism as Housekeeping Supervisor and he was recently employed with McLeod Hospital as a Floor Technician. As a result of his leadership skills, he was inspired to become an entrepreneur and orchestrated his own landscaping business known as Hustle Kutts.

Kenny was predeceased by his mother; grandmother; a brother, James Heard; and a sister, Linda Rainey.

Kenny is survived by his dearly devote loving wife, Anita Wright Heard; six children, Angela Pompey of Clairton, Pennsylvania, Key-Tora Love of Newark, New Jersey, Maurice Hemingway of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Tika Hemingway of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kenneth O. Heard of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Jamaica Heard of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; seven siblings, Geraldine Heard, Ronald Heard, Anna Robinson, Roy Heard, David Heard, Anthony Heard, and Pauline (Ronald) Criswell; ten grandchildren; and a host of uncles; aunts; nephews; nieces; other relatives; and friends.

He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. In the words of Kenneth H. Heard, “MUCH LOVE,” until we meet again.
