Obituary For Vondia Broadnax Harris

Mrs. Vondia Broadnax Harris, 73, of Madison, NC died May 30, 2020. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Perry -Spencer Funeral Home Chapel, Eden, NC.

Born January 23, 1947, transitioned from labor to reward on May 30, 2020 due to a brief battle with cancer. As a native to Eden NC, Vondia was born to Artis Hamiln Broadnax and the late Robert Broadnax Sr. Ma-Ma, as she was affectionately known to many, was one was of the sweetest, most caring people that you would meet. She was willing to do anything for those in need, without question or asking anything in return. Vondia accepted Christ into her life at a young age and established her membership at New Saint Paul Baptist Church, under then leadership of Rev. Roy J. Howard. Vondia found herself working in many auxiliaries and multiple capacities. For a brief time, Vondia followed her husband to Sunny Home Baptist Church, however her heart always remained with New Saint Paul. Vondia received her diploma from Douglas High School, Eden, NC. She then continued her education at A&T University, receiving her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development - Specializing in Home Economics, where she graduated with honors. Vondia worked for Head Start with Rockingham County Public Schools for 25+ years before retiring. Her work was never done however! She was an avid seamstress for the better part of her life. Even after her retirement, Vondia found it hard to stay still and partnered with Caregivers Inc. where she provided transportation to those in need. In her free time, Vondia would stitch a blanket for one or she would hem a dress for another. When the pandemic began, she made it her duty to make masks for those without - she was just that kind of woman. Also, in her free time she would consume the Hallmark Channel as if there was no end. She could tell you every end before the movie really started. Vondia was so special, loved to laugh and she loved to love. Vondia met and married the love of her life, David Harris Jr. in 1979. To this union was born her “pride and joy” Matthew. It was no secret that Vondia would do any and everything for her baby. She often said that she would go to the ends of the earth for him. Therefore, it was no surprise that in her final days, MaMa requested to be at home with Matthew and her daughter, Minnie. She will be so very missed by all who knew and loved her. Vondia was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, David Harris Jr. and father, Robert Broadnax Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory; son; Matthew (Minnie) Harris of Madison, NC; mother; Artis Broadnax of Eden, NC; brothers; Robert (Angela) Broadnax Jr. of Tacoma, WA; Reginald (Veronica) Broadnax of Clemmons, NC; sister; Shirldene (Mark) Reynolds of Ontario, Canada. step-children that she raised and loved as her own; Victor (Lisa) Harris, Michele Harris, Greg (Yvette) Harris, David (Bridgette) Harris, and Gordon Millner, grandchildren; Whitney Harris; Jakayla Harris, Jacob Lunsford, Adelina Padilla, and Ayden Williams, great-grandchildren; Jada Harris -Whitt, and Jabari Witt. She also leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. Vondia loved so many as though they were her blood family. Thank you to her lifelong friends, who were like sisters to her, Sybil Carter, Pamela Smith, Sharon Cobb, Roberta Nicholson, Angela Hampton, and Hazel Martin.
