Obituary For Fred Douglas Riley Jr.

For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking towards you, declares Jehovah, "thoughts of piece, and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Fred Douglas Riley, Jr. was born to the union of Fred Sr. and Juanita Riley November 2, 1950, in Sallis, Mississippi. He was one of twelve children born to this union.

Fred attended Long Creek Elementary and high School. He went on to attend Holmes Junior College briefly before going on to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam war.

Fred met the love of his life, Linda Jean Perteet, and they were married on May 10, 1969, in Kosciusko, Mississippi and remained in union for fifty-one years until his rest. They would eventually settle in Chicago, Illinois, where they would raise their three children. He supported his family through his work as Automotive Technician for the United States Postal Service with forty-two years of service. Fred was a wonderful husband, father and friend. Both he and his wife built and maintained a family life of love that would lead to many memorable occasions.

Fred especially became well known for providing a helping hand, a listening ear, or both to many. He often shared his talents of working on automobiles which he was best known for. He also helped guide many as they transitioned into young adulthood and assisted several with the start of their careers.

In 1984, Fred began to study the Bible with one of Jehovah's Witnesses and he dedicated his life in service to Jehovah through baptism on March 23, 1985. Up until he finished his earthly course, he spent countless hours volunteering to help others learn that same Bible truth as part of his dedication. He taught his family and others that same Bible truth helping them to establish their own personal relationship with our Grand Creator Jehovah God. Even through his illness, he was a shining example of faith and endurance.

Fred fell asleep in death on May 28, 2020 fully confident in God's promise of the resurrection. His parents, Fred, Sr. and Juanita Riley and two sisters, Shirley and Freddie Riley preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Riley; three children, Frederick Riley, Sharmane Riley and Cedrick (Jocelyn) Riley; four grandchildren, Shaynia Riley, Frederick Riley, Jr., McKinley Riley and Easton Riley; five sisters, Essy (Nicholas) Dzlavaras, Willie Stewart, Betty Riley, Mary (Jay) Craig and Victoria Brown; four brothers, Andrew (Sattaglia) Johnson, Lain Riley, Anthony (Barbara) Riley and Toby (Regina) Riley; a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
