Obituary For Louise Thomas

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.

A Private Memorial Service for Mrs. Louise "Weezy" Lockhart Thomas will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, June 6, 2020 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 S. Johns St., Florence, SC, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

On October 16, 1933, Louise “Weezy” Lockhart Thomas, was born in Cheraw, South Carolina, one of the three children of the late Ben Brisbane and Janice James Foster. She passed away at her home in Effingham, South Carolina on June 2, 2020.

Louise was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church in Pamplico, South Carolina, where she served on the Choir.

Louise was joined in marriage to the late Japan Peter Thomas.

Louis attended the Public Schools in Washington, District of Columbia and was a graduate of Cardoza High School. She later gained Higher Education at Miner Normal School in Washington, District of Columbia (now known as University of the District of Columbia).

Louise was employed with the Federal Government in the United States Department of Labor Division. Louise enjoyed being surrounded by her family and loved ones, and sharing her past life stories with her family and loved ones.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Japan Peter Thomas; a son, William Chandler; a sister, Catherine Perry; and a brother, Willie Lockhart.

Louise is survived by a daughter, Dawn Jackson of Florence, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Sade’ Thomas of the home in Effingham, South Carolina, Tyeisha Gibbs of Florence, South Carolina, Christopher Gibbs of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Sydell Gibbs of Florence, South Carolina, and Devon Gibbs of Spartanburg, ; three great grandchildren, Sabali Spry of the home in Effingham, South Carolina, Taylen Wells of Florence, South Carolina, and Paris Collins of Florence, South Carolina; like a grandson, Travis Kelly of Effingham, South Carolina; godson, Christopher (Angel) Smith of Florence, South Carolina, three close friends of the family, Deloris Blount of Effingham, South Carolina, Francine Saunders of Pelham, North Carolina, and Calvin Davis of Pamplico, South Carolina; and a host of nephews; nieces; other relatives; and friends.

I remember as a teenager hanging out at Mrs. Louise's house with Dawn. We had some really good times there. Mrs . Louise baked some of the best cakes too. You guys are family always. To Dawn I give you my deepest condolences. I love you my friend. May your mom rest in eternal peace.
