Obituary For Mr. Carl M. Norman

On Tuesday, June 2, 2020, God’s blessing came for His beloved servant Carl Melvin “Booby” Norman as he entered into eternal rest at his home in Dillon County, South Carolina. Carl was the son of the late Lester and Lillie Mae Smiling Norman. He was born on June 8, 1965 in Brooklyn, New York, where he attended the public schools system.

After eventually making Dillon County his permanent home, Carl worked with various businesses throughout the county. He was employed by Perdue Farms and Harbor Freight Tools. But he was best loved for his employment with Little Pumpkin Learning Center, Dillon, South Carolina, Small World of Latta, South Carolina, Kids Zone of Bennettsville, South Carolina and Successful Afterschool Site in Dillon, South Carolina.

Any child that ever attended these childcare facilities loved Carl “Mr. Booby,” for his quick wit, funny jokes and his famous “Pick It Up,” and “Free” sayings. At the time of his passing, Carl was employed with Genesis Family Restaurant, Bennettsville, South Carolina still bringing joy and laughter to many with his love for family and his desire to always be of assistance any way he could.

At an early age, Carl received Christ as his personal Savior. He served faithfully as a Deacon and Usher at Charity Tabernacle Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend Lodie C. Smiling in Dillon, South Carolina. He also served faithfully to Shepherd Chapel Ministries and Power House Christian Church under Elder Dean and Lady Tanya Page.

In 2004, Carl married Latasha Friday and their union ended in 2014 but even after the divorce they maintained a close and caring friendship together. They reared together three children, whom Carl loved dearly and who cherished him as well.

Carl was preceded in death by his father: Lester; mother: Lillie; sister: Shanda, Sheila and son: Carl Melvin “CJ” Norman Jr.Carl leaves to cherish his loving memories ~ two uncles: Carnell (Betty) Smiling of Shelby, SC, Hezekiah (Mary) Ward; of Blenheim, SC; two aunts: Maxine Smiling of Portsmouth, VA, Gloria Smiling of Florence, SC; a special friend: Shannon Covington of the home; five adopted children: Kayla, DeQuan and Tyriq Friday, Parish Covington and Dorothy Marie Covington; grand-daughter: Chasity Monae Norman of Brooklyn, New York; adopted grand-daughters: Audrey Friday and Layla Covington; close life-long friend: Vincent McBride and a host of special cousins, other relatives and friends.
