Obituary For Robert Grissett, Sr.

Robert Leroy Grissett, Sr. was born Sunday, January 31, 1954, in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida. From the start Robert was an ambitious young man with a drive to be the best at anything he set his mind to do from academics to athletics. Grissett attended local schools, graduating from New Stanton Senior High School in 1971 where he was on both the track and football teams. Upon finishing high school, he applied and was accepted to the University of Florida in Gainesville at a time when black students were few and far between. While in Gainesville Robert studied landscape architecture and made a life-changing decision to pledge the charter line of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Omicron Zeta undergraduate chapter. This decision would lead to a lifetime of service and brotherhood demonstrating the ideals of his beloved Omega Psi Fraternity; ultimately influencing many young men and family members, including his namesake to follow in his footsteps. Robert was a charismatic gifted salesperson, manager, administrator and entrepreneur logging thousands of miles driving all over the United States to close deals—big and small. Robert began his sales career with W.W. Kellogg Company, and over the years achieved higher-ranking sales, district, and region manager positions with corporations like BellSouth Advertising Yellow Pages, Emergency Networks, Inc., Scott Alarm Systems, Consolidated Mortgage, The Talking Phone Book, and Yellow Book USA. After finally retiring from corporate life, he finally took the opportunity to pursue his horticultural passion as owner of All Seasons Lawncare and FEMA Disaster Recovery Contractor . His meticulous attention to detail is a legacy he leaves behind. He loved life, family, enjoyed entertaining and hosted or was instrumental in planning several family reunions and gatherings over the years. He will be dearly missed. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Viola, Robert and sister Jeanette Silas. He leaves to celebrate his life and carry on his legacy sons Robert L. Grissett, Jr. (CA), Ryan L. Grissett (NY), and daughter Lauren G. Hinton (Jason) (IN). Grandchildren Eliot J. Grissett, Aiden W. Hinton, Camryn M. Hinton, and Landon P. Hinton; brother Anthony E. So sorry to hear about Robert's death. We entered the University of Florida during a tumultuous time. We were the second class of African Americans to total over 200 admitted. We had many challenges but we also earned degrees enabling us to live as close to the American Dream as was allowed during the times. Our Junior year Robert married Cynthia Mays (the first African American Homecoming Queen at U of Fla.). I was honored to be in their beautiful wedding. From this union came a son named after his dad. Recently Robert was playing Words with Friends with me and I wondered why he had not completed our game. I felt so badly when I found out that he would not finish because God had called him home. Rest In Peace, Robert. You will be missed.

My Sincere Prayers and Condolences go out to the Grissett Family at this time and during your Bereavement time! "G" Man gave me my first job when I came home from the Marine Corps. He taught me to round off some of my square corners in life and remained a true friend until the end. I only wish that I could be there with you personally as you celebrate his home going, but I have been advise that I am now a high risk for Covid 19 and it would not be wise for me to personally attend. But know this, my thoughts and prayers are always with you. Lon Fanniel

Robert, our friendship was made of our Yellow Pages beginnings in September of 1980 and continued to grow throught the years. You're the only person whom I have exchanged Christmas Cards with for 39 years. You were truly family and I always considered you my brother, no slang intended. I've already been missing those constructive calls that we've had through the years. I will miss you as your family will. Rest In Peace, Richard Mente

Condolences to the family of Robert L. Grissett Sr. Robert ~ The most amazing man to walk the earth. Robert is smart, funny, devilishly handsome, sexy, fiercely strong yet extremely gentle, caring, genuine, determined, loving, kind, giving, and sensitive. He has a fantastic smile, he's stylish, the best cook, and an awesome dancer. Loves music and history, and especially history about music. A momma's boy in the sweetest of ways. He'll do anything for a loved one and give the shirt off his back. The sound of his voice is soothing and the sight of him can take your breath away. To be held in his arms is to know what security and safety truly feel like. He will never stand for disrespect toward his loved ones and will always protect those in his presence. He brings out the best in people. He's a life changer. He has a magnetism about him that draws people in. Everyone wanted to be his friend. He was the life of the party. Forever joking. Always made you smile. Robert knew how to sport a suit and was always as sharp as a "Gillette" razor. This incredible man will be greatly missed. He was my rock, my foundation, my best friend, my life. Until we meet again ~ Rest In Heaven My Precious Robert

Cousin Robert is my favorite Cousin which I told him often. He is my fellow Aquarian and kindred spirit! We always celebrated our birthdays together since they are a day apart. Robert frequently gave me advice on life and I will miss our conversations . He was my lawn guy and often sent me uplifting text messages expressing his affection. I simply loved and adored him and will ALWAYS be thankful for the 66 years God shared him with us. If his children need anything, they can always count on Cousin Deb. God bless you all
