Obituary For Martila Louise Chatman

Graveside services for Ms. Martila Louise Chatman, 79, will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020, at Kelly Springs Memorial Park. Rev. Walter Jones will be the eulogist. Visitation will be 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at the funeral home.

Ms. Martila Louise Chatman began life’s journey on Thursday, June 20, 1940, to the union of Frank Chapman and Marie Morris Chapman in Talladega, Alabama.

Ms. Chatman accepted Christ at an early age and united with Southside Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served on the kitchen board. She completed her education at Westside High School. Martila was employed with Helen Keller, Eastside School and retired with 39 years of service from Alabama Industries for the Deaf and Blind. During her free time, if you did not find Martila cooking then she was serving and worshipping in church.

On the evening of Thursday, June 11, 2020, Martila began her eternal journey home at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Frank and Marie Chapman; and two sisters, Mary Holland and Martha McClellan.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Cliffie L. (Diane) Chatman of Munford, Alabama and Archer L. Chatman of Talladega, Alabama; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; a special daughters/nieces, Chrysanthe Chapman and Tammy Holland; best friend, Alline Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
