Obituary For Mamie Graham

Funeral services for Mamie Smokes Graham, 99, of Allendale were held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Ervington Baptist Church with Reverend Bernice Graves officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mamie was one of eight children born to the late Chester Smokes and Hattie Erwin Smokes on November 18, 1920 in the Bull Pond Community of Allendale County, South Carolina where she grew up.

Mamie was educated in Allendale County Schools. She enjoyed riding to Ervington Baptist Church on a horse drawn buggy with her parents and siblings where she gave her life to Christ and was baptized when she was a very young girl. She often talked about how she enjoyed church with her family as a child.

Mamie took so much pride in working hard and raising her children, grandchildren and great grands. She loved her family so much. She loved cooking for her family and making sure that everything was kept clean.

Mamie was first married to Willie McMillian. Later on in life, she shared vows of marriage with the late Freddie Graham. Mamie and Freddie were blessed to raise their children in their home along with several grandchildren and great grands.

Mamie started working early in life, always worked hard and enjoyed working. She was indeed a true workaholic. She worked many years for the local dry cleaners and later in life retired from Allendale County Health Department where she also worked for more than 20 years.

As years passed, Mamie continued taking care of her family and her home until her health started to decline. God knew Mamie was growing weak and tired. Her course on Earth was ending. On Saturday morning at 1:00 a.m., God called on “Mamie” to come home. Mamie was ready to finally be with her Lord.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gardner “Dr. Scoop” McMillian.

Cherishing everlasting memories are her children: Willa Youmans of Allendale, SC, Tyrone (Lula) Montague of Eden, GA, Mabel (Louis) Dix, Malinda (Bentrice) Frazier and McCorskey Graham all of Allendale, SC; one daughter-in-law; Shirley McMillian, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; six sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and loving family members and dear friends.

Visitation will be held for the public on Monday, June 15. 2020 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Please adhere to COVID -19 precautions regarding social distancing. A mask is require for viewing.

Sad to awake to the passing of Mrs. Mamie. She was such a fun loving individual. She and Mr. Freddie always welcomed me into their home and I truly enjoyed my visits with them. I'll miss her. Be strong, knowing that you did an excellent job taking care of her.
