Van Hoose & Steele Funeral Home, Inc. announce the passing of Mr. James S. Gibson.

MEMORIAL SERVICES: Thursday, June 25th at 9:00 a.m.

BURIAL: Cedar Oak Memorial Park, 1401 Mimosa Park Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.

Born in Mobile, Alabama to the parents of Thomas Lee Gibson Kemp and Rosalie Wynn.

James was the 8th and youngest child of the family of four boys and three girls.

His first marriage was at a very young age to Leola Williams from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The city was their favorite place to live at retirement after his adventurous life in the Big Apple for 47 years. They raised their only child Saundra. She married Edward Allen and made them happy grandparents to a girl named Taunya and two boys Edward Jr. and Robert.

James worked hard on the USS Passenger Ship for many years. He later operated and managed a grocery store and also worked at Kennedy Airport as a SkyCap. He was a generous man who provided assistance to family members in times of need.

The original family grew in size with the coming of the great-grandchildren, Jazzimin, Keith, Tatiana, Katalina and Kayli. Plus a set of twin great-great-great-grandchildren, Kaylix and Soraya.

Unfortunately, James lost his wife to cancer. Then James had a second chance at love when he met and married Leonida. Their marriage lasted for another 21 happy and wonderful years.

James will always be remembered for his smile, laughter, and funny jokes. He was also a very generous, friendly, kind-hearted and easy to get along type of man.

James also leaves behind Maria Williams and a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends that will miss him dearly.
