Obituary For Gene Ivan Babbs

Graveside services for Mr. Gene Ivan Babbs, 64, will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2020, at Midway Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the funeral home.

Mr. Gene Ivan Babbs was born on Sunday, May 20, 1956, to the union of Eugene Babbs and Glovina Eubanks Babbs in the city of Edna in Choctaw County, Alabama.

Gene received his elementary education at Indian Springs Elementary School and East Choctaw School in Choctaw County, Alabama. He moved to Talladega, Alabama in 1969 where he attended Bemiston Elementary, Dixon Junior High and Talladega High School. At Talladega High School, he played varsity basketball and was an outstanding football player. He was offered an athletic scholarship in football to Mississippi State University upon graduation in 1976, but decided not to attend after completing spring training.

Gene was employed at the Bemiston Bag Company from 1976 to 1978. From 1978 until he became disabled, he was a carpenter in the Talladega area working for various contractors and would sometimes travel out of state.

On the evening of Friday, June 19, 2020, at UAB Hospital at 5:15 p.m., Mr. Babbs answered the call of his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Eugene Babbs and Glovina Eubanks Babbs; two brothers, James Oliver Glover and Douglas Kenneth Glover; a niece, LaToya Glover; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Glover.

He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter, Irish Stockdale (April) Cooley of Talladega, Alabama; five sisters, Joyce (Leroy) Robbins of Goodwater, Alabama, Deborah (George) Dye, Helen Babbs Lawler, Puracenta (Timothy) Barclay and Ora Glover of Talladega, Alabama; three brothers, Ronnie (Chris) Eubanks of Daleville, Alabama, Jack (Brenda) Babbs of Oxford, Alabama and John Eddie Babbs of Carrollton, Georgia; one aunt, Mae Ella Ward of York, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
