Obituary For Mrs. Mary Irby

Mrs. Mary Lee Davis Irby departed her earthly journey on June 21, 2020 at Meridian Center. The first born to Maybelle and William Davis, she was born on February 7, 1935 in Mullins, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Willie Samson; sister, Daisy Mae Davis; brothers, Rainey Davis and Odell Davis. Mary was educated in the Palmetto School System. After relocating to High Point, NC, she was employed at restaurants and was a pants presser at Master Kleen Cleaners. Mary received her Christian Experience under the Christian Leadership of Pastor Brunson of Holy Ghost Temple. Mary was “Mama” to her siblings and their children. She was a marvelous woman who was a special gift to the universe. There will never be another like her; she was one of a kind. Mary always had a garden and loved sharing the harvest of the crop. She loved to beautify her yard and all the neighbors’ yards as well. She was well loved by her neighbors Larry and Denise, whom she was like a mother to also. Mary loved and cared for everyone. She never met a stranger that did not become family. She was a very stylish dresser. Everyone she knew loved and adored her. Mary was united in marriage to Gus Irby, who also preceded her in death. Left to cherish precious memories are a son, Jerome Davis; grandson, Tory; great-granddaughter, Harmonie; sisters, Bobbie Jean, Eloise, Aike and Versie Mae; brothers; Ralph, Vandell and John; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A private funeral service will be held Friday, June 26, 2020 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. Mrs. Irby may be viewed on Thursday, June 25, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
